Karratha Commemorative Book

Commemorating 50 years

In August 2019, the City of Karratha, Western Australia, released a commemorative book to mark 50 years since Karratha was gazetted in 1969. This coffee table book shows how ‘the City of the North’ has developed in only 50 years!

From humble beginnings to a diverse and vibrant city, Karratha has become the largest town in the Pilbara region of Western Australia – the world's richest mineral region. In 2018, the city’s exports totalled over $40 billion.

Nikki M Group are delighted to have worked with the City of Karratha to provide design, content development and print management services.

This book is a tribute to Karratha and its people. The collection of photographs capture moments in time and the spirit of the region. Standout images include Jimmy Barnes rocking it out at the Millars Well Oval concert in 1988, the gun slinging Mrs Australia Quest of 1993, and the Cockroach Cup of 1997.

City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long said, ‘In just 50 years since the first shovel dug into the earth, Karratha has become a major centre to service the resource industries, provide government services and house other businesses. It has also become a fantastic place to live, work and play. This book is a collection of photographs that capture moments in time during the past half-century and commemorate the people and events that make Karratha unique.’

We hope you enjoy this important historical resource.
